• Shadings in velvet carpets

Shadings can be found in specific areas by creating a light and dark effect with nuances being different from the other carpet areas. This effect is often caused by traffic, which bends carpet fibers in different directions. Shadings can also be found around furnishings. This problem may successfully be tackled by using a hot iron. In addition, a humid cloth should be placed between the carpet and the iron so as not to crush the piles and thus transmit humidity to the carpet, while brushing piles in the same direction as that of the other ones.

 • Creases and Bumps

If you have a wall-to-wall carpet you may notice temporary creases or bumps in very humid days. If they do not disappear in a dry day, you will probably need to hire professional carpeting services in order to re-stretch the carpet. To prevent this from happening, make sure the installer uses a “lever stretcher”, rather than a “roll stretcher”.

 • Snagging

Rough elements such as a nail or a kid´s toy, etc may sometimes cause your carpets to get snagged, specially looped carpets. Should you find a loose fiber, simply snip it off using sharp scissors, never pull it out. Long snagged fibers or those having numerous knots should be restored by using a fine adhesive.

 • Shedding

Wool fibers or “fluffs” shedding from your new carpet or those found in the vacuum cleaner are remaining loose fibers that were not removed during the manufacturing process.

 • Crushing

It is caused by furniture weight or heavy traffic in some areas. It can be generally treated by using a hot iron.  In addition, a humid cloth should be placed between the carpet and the iron so as not to crush the fibers. Shortly afterwards, brush the carpet in the opposite direction so as to lift the fibers.

 • Opacity

In most cases, it is caused by dirt. Dust and soot filled air releases oily particles on the carpet that penetrate into the fibers, therefore darkening its colors. A good professional carpet cleaning will restore the brightness of the original colors.
