Immediate cleaning up is crucial to prevent permanent carpet damage.
Remember that what you can do at that moment and with home-made
cleaning techniques cannot be done afterwards, even by professional
carpet cleaners, since it is much more difficult to remove stains
once they have aged or are “embedded” in the carpet.
Always clean the carpet cautiously, even with the recommended cleaning
solutions, specially when carpet’s origin or compounds are
unknown. Dab the solution and rub smoothly with a white cloth to
see if the stain vanishes or if it causes discoloration.
Your first attitude towards a stain should be to absorb and remove,
without scraping, all the excess spill, as much as possible. Pour
the minimum quantity of the corresponding solution on the stain,
and a few drops on a clean cloth.
AVOID DOUSING THE AREA
Do not rush the process, many stains are
hard to remove and it may take some time for them to disappear.
If the stain is covered with a hard crust, you will need to remove
it with a brush first. Apply the solution and blot as many times
as necessary until it disappears. Then apply water and blot until
complete rinse of the solution. When rinse is finished, blot a
pad of clean white paper towels (10/12) or dry and clean cloths
over the treated and wet area. Place an iron or a pile of books
on top of the pad at least for two hours. This will help to evaporate
and dry humidity immediately, since it is harmful for your carpet.
